What should I watch tonight?
Tell us your taste once, tap a mood each night, and get three picks worth your evening. A safe bet, a stretch, and a hidden gem.
How it works
1. Tell us what you love
Tap through a grid of posters, or connect Letterboxd and let your history do the talking. It takes about a minute.
2. Pick a mood
Something light, something intense, background comfort, date night, or surprise me. The mood changes the shortlist, not just the order.
3. Get three films
A safe bet, a stretch, and a hidden gem, each with a sentence on why it suits you and where you can stream it tonight.
Common questions
- What is Pickford?
- Pickford is a free web app that recommends three films to watch tonight. It learns your taste from a short visual quiz or a Letterboxd import, then gives you one safe bet, one stretch, and one hidden gem each evening rather than an endless grid to scroll.
- How does Pickford pick films?
- It builds a candidate pool from films connected to the ones you already love, by shared keywords, directors, and franchises, then filters out anything you have seen, anything close to films you disliked, and anything that does not fit tonight's mood. The final three come from different genres so you get a real choice.
- Why only three recommendations?
- Because the problem is not a shortage of films, it is the half hour lost to browsing. Three picks with a reason each is a decision you can make in a minute.
- Does Pickford know what I can actually stream?
- Yes. You tell it which services you subscribe to and every pick shows where it is streaming, with a link straight to the title. If you are happy to rent, it will include rentals too.
- Can I use my Letterboxd history?
- Yes. Connect your Letterboxd username and Pickford reads your public RSS feed, refreshing it weekly, or upload a full Letterboxd export for your entire history. Pickford never asks for your Letterboxd password.
- What is Blend?
- Blend is for watching with someone else. You pair with a partner by email and get picks that suit you both, including films either one of you can stream. The pairing lasts, so the same blend gives you fresh picks each day.
- Is Pickford free?
- Yes, Pickford is free to use. A paid tier is planned for extra picks and finer filters, but the nightly recommendations are not going behind a paywall.
- Will Pickford recommend films I have already seen?
- Only if you ask it to. By default anything you have watched is excluded. A setting in your profile lets old favorites back in rarely or sometimes, and a resurfaced film is always labelled as one you have seen before.
